as stupid as it sounds, there is some part of you that is seeing this "sugar and spice/future mother of my children/little angel" vision of her, and she's got an equally ridiculous "knight in shining armor" ideal of you. and god forbid that either of those ideals ever wanted to just get laid! she's in a category where no woman has ever been before in your head, and knowing that she's had some less-than-stellar or not-so-thought-out liasons "normalizes" her, and subconsciously that bothers you. same on her end.

Unless you've had a discussion where he openly stated he wants you to make the first move, there is no discernible intention to his lack of action. I think you perceive an intention because you're interested and therefore reading into things.

I understand what you're saying - about is there a need to create an artificial break between relationships. But it's equally true that there are a great many people who can't leave one relationship unless they have a 'lifeboat' relationship waiting for them - they can't tolerate being alone. The fact that she left a very serious, long term, and damaging relationship lends credence to that.
